Blogtoberfest 2014 Day 15 - WOYWW or WOAWW #280

It is Wednesday therefore it must be time to join in with Julia's What's on your Workdesk Wednesday - well I have been away for a week and haven't done any crafting at home but I did invade my friend Lisa's husbands desk whilst I was away.  So technically I should call this week What's on Alun's Workdesk Wednesday!!!!!

Lisa has recently done a mixed media class decorating book covers, so she took me step by step through the class so that I could make the covers for my Journal Your Christmas album.

First job was to paint the covers with gesso and add torn up pieces of paper
Then I covered that with Mod Podge and added some texture paste snowflakes
 Then metal embellishments were added
And another layer of Mod Podge before adding fabric and chipboard die cut snowflakes.  Then the whole lot was covered with Gesso.  Then I started adding colour with mists and distress stains
The colour was built up in layers
And the final colour layer was to add gilding wax and then buff this off
Thank you Alun for letting me make a right mess on your desk!!  And thank you Lisa for taking the time to show me how to do it and providing me with so much of your craft supplies xx

  2. For a non messy crafter, it looks like you embraced the techniques wholeheartedly.

  3. Thank you for the lesson! I was just looking at molding paste, and didn't buy it. Couldn't decide. It was in colors though. You can tell this is something I have been thinking about. So, thanks for sharing. And also thank you for stopping by earlier. To answer your question, yes we went on an Alaskan cruise in August. I am still trying to get my album done. LOL #73

  4. Very nice! I bet it will be strong and enduring too! I love getting messy with crafting and this is right up my alley. I might just give it a try! Thanks for sharing and have a great week. I am a little late getting started this week so decided to start at the bottom of the list and work my way back to #1. Vickie @76

  9. It was such a pleasure having you visit us and it was great watching you "become a messy crafter" Our Systah Lesley won't have to work so hard next year to get you messy as you are now a fully paid up member of "the messy crafters club" ;D

Looking forward to seeing it completed next year :D

Just wait til I get to do the tarmac technique!! unless you get to do it first? ;)

  10. Thanks for the tutorial. Yout book cover looks great! I'm still reluctant to get messy. My excuse has always been that I can't get gesso or modpodge here. But I've just found a Spanish website that sells it, so now I have no more excuse...
Thank you for letting me look over your shoulder,
    Have a good week

  11. That all looks lovely. How great to have a one-to-one tutorial like that - and make the mess on someone else's desk!! The journal will be beautiful. Have a great week, Chris # 16

  12. Oh looks like you had a lorra fun. And also looks like you're a bit neater than me in the tearing and placing section of the brain.....a neat edge placed just so in the corner to begin with - so not me! Love the colours it came out...hope Alun isn't experiencing residue - hey - at least it's not glitter!

  13. Your book covers are beautiful. I love how all that texture comes together once you get the gesso on, and then you can colour away to your heart's content! Great stuff.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
